4,021. Sorting the Wood

Hilchos Bias HaMikdash 6:12

If a kohein is found to be of unblemished lineage but he has a physical blemish, he sits in the wood chamber and sorts out the wormy logs from the woodpile. He is included in dividing the offerings with the members of his family and may eat them, as per Leviticus 21:22: “He may eat the food of his God from the most holy and the holy.”

Hilchos Bias HaMikdash 7:1

There are fifty physical blemishes that disqualify both humans (i.e., kohanim, from serving) and animals (for offerings). These will be enumerated in the following halachos.
