4,015. A Loose Stone

Hilchos Bias HaMikdash 5:19

If one of the stones of the courtyard becomes loose, one may not stand on it while performing the service until it’s re-affixed. If one did perform the service on such a stone, the service is valid because the stone is in its proper place.

Hilchos Bias HaMikdash 6:1

A kohein who has a permanent or a temporary blemish may not enter from the altar and inward, as per Leviticus 21:21-23: “...may not come to the curtain or approach the altar.” If a kohein violated the law and entered that area, he is subject to the penalty of lashes even if he didn’t perform the service. If he did perform the service, he profanes the service and it is invalidated. He is also subject to lashes for performing the service as per verse 17: “…may not draw.” Our oral tradition teaches this is a warning not to draw near to perform the service.
