#296: Borer with Non-Food Items - Tableware
1. According to the strict opinion mentioned in the previous post (which we said was the more accepted one), the rules of Borer apply to silverware mixed up in a drawer, dish drain, or in a pile on the table. In such cases, one should set the table shortly before the meal (“miyad”) and take only the ones needed (“ochel”). One should also not sort them to put away for later use, but just put them away as a group.
2. One other approach to these cases is to “unmix the mixture” (which will be discussed next week), where one scatters the silverware out so that they are not in a mixture any more. Once that is done, one may do what one wishes with each piece.
