3,931. When the Kohein Gadol Offers a Sacrifice

Hilchos Klei HaMikdash 5:13

If the Kohein Gadol wanted to offer a sacrifice, he would ascend the ramp with the Deputy Kohein Gadol to his right. When he reached the center of the ramp, the Deputy Kohein Gadol would take his right hand and assist him. The kohein who carried the head of the burnt offering would extend the limbs to the Kohein Gadol, who would lay his hands on them and then throw them on the fire.

Hilchos Klei HaMikdash 5:14

All of the other limbs were then extended to him. Those who carried them would give the limbs to the first kohein, who would give them to the Kohein Gadol. He would lay his hands on them and throw them on the fire. If he only wanted to lay his hands on them and have another kohein throw them on the fire, that’s his prerogative. The only laying of hands on individual limbs is when the Kohein Gadol offers a sacrifice, which is done for his honor. The only other laying of hands is on live animals.
