3,928. The Kohein Gadol in Court

Hilchos Klei HaMikdash 5:7

There was a building for the Kohein Gadol in the Temple called “The Chamber of the Kohein Gadol.” He would remain in the Temple the whole day, returning to his home only at night, or for an hour or two during the day. His home must be in Jerusalem and he may not move from there.

Hilchos Klei HaMikdash 5:8

A Kohein Gadol may serve as a judge and he may be judged. One is permitted to testify against him. Capital cases against him are only judged in the Great Sanhedrin, as per Exodus 18:22: “Any great matter shall be brought to you.”
