#258: Excess Juice

1. We learned yesterday that the juice that seeps out of any fruits other than grapes and olives is permitted if one intends to eat them. Based on this principle, it is permissible to drink the leftover juice from a melon, watermelon, orange, or other fruit that was meant to be used mainly for eating (Orchot Shabbat 4:29).

2. Poskim disagree as to whether one may drink leftover juice from a fruit salad that contains grapes and other fruits. Some say that it is permissible (Orchot Shabbat, ibid.), while others say it is forbidden and the juice from the grapes do not become nullified [batel] to the other liquid because forbidden items in a mixture that will be permitted later (i.e., after Shabbat) do not become nullified (Shemirat Shabbat K'hilchatah).
