3,880. The Different Camps and Their Corresponding Locations in the Temple

Hilchos Beis HaBechirah 7:11

There were three Jewish camps in the wilderness. There was the Israelite camp, which was divided into four smaller camps, the Levite camp, regarding which Numbers 1:50 says: “They shall camp around the Mishkan,” and the camp of the Shechinah. This camp extended from the entrance to the courtyard of the Tent of Meeting and inwards. The corresponding areas for all generations are as follows: From the entrance to Jerusalem until the Temple Mount is like the Israelite camp; from the entrance to the Temple Mount until the entrance to the courtyard, which is the Nicanor gate, is like the Levite camp; from the entrance to the courtyard and inward is like the camp of the Shechinah. The cheil and the women’s section were of an extra degree of sanctity added in with the establishment of the permanent Temple.

Hilchos Beis HaBechirah 7:12

All of Israel is holier than any other land. A ramification of this holiness is that the omer of barley, the two loaves brought on Shavuos and first fruits must only be brought from Israel and not from any other land.
