3,879. Not Copying the Design of the Temple

Hilchos Beis HaBechirah 7:9

One may never move his bowels or sleep between east and west [the exact intention is unclear, but apparently this means in the direction of the Temple], and it should go without saying that may not put a commode between east and west anywhere in the world, because the Temple is in the west. One should therefore not move his bowels towards the west or the east, which is opposite the west. Rather, one should always move his bowels and sleep to the north and south. One who passes water from Mt. Scopus inward must not sit facing the Temple. Rather, he should face north or south, or have the Temple to his side.

Hilchos Beis HaBechirah 7:10

One may not erect a building based on the Temple’s design, nor a porch based on the entry hall, a courtyard like the courtyard of the Temple, a table like the Table or a candelabra like the Menorah. One may, however, make a candelabra resembling the Menorah with five branches or eight branches, or even with seven branches if the candelabra isn’t metal.
