3,824. Beginning Hilchos Beis HaBechirah - All About the Temple

Hilchos Beis HaBechirah 1:1

There is a Torah obligation to build a Temple for God, ready to offer sacrifices inside. We must make pilgrimage there three times a year as per Exodus 25:8: “You shall make for Me a sanctuary.” The Tabernacle that Moshe built is described in the Torah, but it was only temporary as per Deuteronomy 12:9: “For you have not arrived there as yet” (referring to the future site of the Temple; see Rashi on the rest of this verse).

Hilchos Beis HaBechirah 1:2

When the Jews entered Israel, they assembled the Tabernacle in Gilgal for the fourteen years of conquering and dividing the land. After that, they went to Shiloh, where they built a house of stone over which they spread the curtains of the Tabernacle; it didn’t have a roof. The sanctuary of Shiloh stood for 369 years and was destroyed when Eli the Kohein died. Afterwards, they came to Nov, where they built a sanctuary that was destroyed when the prophet Shmuel died. They then went to Givon and built a sanctuary there. After Givon, they established the permanent Temple in Jerusalem. The sanctuaries of Nov and Givon stood for 57 years.
