3,804. Leaving the Purchased Field Fallow

Hilchos Shemittah v’Yoveil 11:11

If the buyer left the field fallow one year and benefitted from it the next, or if he benefitted from it one year and plowed it but didn’t plant in it the next, these years count towards the requisite two years. If the owner sold the field during yoveil, the sale is ineffective and the money must be returned.

Hilchos Shemittah v’Yoveil 11:12

If the owner sold the field one year before yoveil, the buyer benefits from it for a second year after yoveil. This is as per Leviticus 25:15: “years of crops.”
