3,647. Converting Before and After Rolling Dough

Hilchos Bikkurim 8:8

Similar to the case in the previous halacha is if a non-Jew gives a Jew flour to make dough for him, and then he gives the Jew the dough as a gift. If he gave him the dough before it’s rolled, challah must be taken; if after, challah need not be taken.

Hilchos Bikkurim 8:9

Regarding a non-Jew who converts to Judaism, if he has dough that was rolled before he converted, challah need not be taken. If it was rolled after the conversion, then challah must be taken. In a case of doubt, challah must be taken. This is because eating bread from which challah has not been taken is punishable by “death at the hands of Heaven.” If a non-kohein inadvertently eats the challah that was taken in such a case of doubt, he need not add the extra fifth when paying it back.
