#143: Forgetting to Recite Retzeh in Birkat Hamazon on Shabbat

1.If one forgets to recite Retzeh and remembers after concluding the berachah of Boneh Yerushalayim but before beginning the next berachah, one recites the following short replacement berachah:

"ברוך אתה ד' אלקינו מלך העולם אשר נתן שבתות למנוחה לעמו ישראל באהבה לאות ולברית, ברוך אתה ד' מקדש השבת"

After reciting this, one continues with the next berachah as usual (Shulchan Aruch, O.C. 188:6).

2.If one has already begun the next berachah and remembers that Retzeh was not recited, but has only said the words ברוך אתה ד' אלקינו מלך העולם, one may complete the berachah by continuing with the text of the replacement berachah above (Mishnah Berurah 188:23).
