#131: Resting on Shabbat Day (Part 1)

  1. We saw previously that eating delicacies and special foods is included in the mitzvah of oneg Shabbat. Resting by taking a nap on Shabbat afternoon can also fulfill the mitzvah of Oneg Shabbat for those who enjoy it (Rema, O.C. 290:1).
  2. One who rests should not spend too much time sleeping, as Shabbat is also meant to be spent engaged in meaningful activities, such as Torah study and family time (Mishnah Berurah 290:3).
