#125: Reciting Hamotzi and Distributing the Challah on Shabbat (Part 7)
- We mentioned in the previous post that those around the table may not eat challah before the one who recites Hamotzi has taken a bite. This is true only when everyone eats from the lechem mishneh challah of the host. However, if everyone has their own two lechem mishneh rolls in front of them, they may listen to Hamotzi from the host and then eat from their own rolls, before the host has eaten a bite.
- In contrast to the previous case, those around the table may not listen to hamotzi from the host and then eat a piece of their own challah or roll if they do not have two lechem mishneh rolls in front of them. Rather, they must either listen to Hamotzi from the host and partake of the host’s lechem mishneh or have lechem mishneh in front of them, in which case they may either recite Hamotzi themselves or listen to the berachah from the host (we will see a more lenient opinion in the next post).
