#95: Kiddush B'makom Seudah (Part 2)
- We learned yesterday that most opinions allow eating a meal of mezonot foods after reciting Kiddush to fulfill the halacha of Kiddush b’makom seudah. Many opinions also allow drinking two amounts of a "revi’it" of wine or grape juice (approximately 172 cc/6 fluid ounces according to R. Chaim Naeh, or approximately 300 cc/10.2 fluid ounces according to the Chazon Ish). Some opinions hold that even drinking one revi’it suffices (Mishnah Berurah 22-27). Thus one who is unable to consume a k’zayit of mezonot for any reason (e.g., on Pesach, if one does not eat matzah meal foods) may also drink two, and perhaps even one, revi’it instead (even lechatchilah) to fulfill the requirement of Kiddush b’makom seudah.
- Since the Kiddush on Friday night is a Torah obligation, one should ideally not fulfill the halacha of Kiddush b’makom seudah with just wine, unless one finds it exceptionally difficult to eat mezonot (e.g., one who is gluten-free).
