Shalosh Seudos - Frozen Roll
QUESTION: Can one use a frozen roll as the lechem mishneh for Shalosh Seudos?
ANSWER: Rav Sternbuch (Teshuvos V’hanhagos 2:170) writes that lechatchila one should not use a frozen roll, since lechem mishneh is meant to remind us of the mann, and the mann was edible as is. However, he agrees that if one has no other choice, one may use a frozen roll for lechem mishneh, since this is only a zecher (commemoration) for the mann, and the remembrance is fulfilled even with a frozen roll. Rav Ovadya Yosef zt”l also agrees with this, but he adds that if possible one should stretch out the meal so that there is time for the roll to thaw before the end of the meal. In either case, if one can borrow a roll from a neighbor, even if you must return it to him right afterwards, that is preferable to using a frozen roll. Regarding Shalosh Seudos, there is more reason to be lenient, since there is an opinion quoted by the Rema that does not require two loaves for Shalosh Seudos.
