3,179. The Volume of Maaser Ani from the House

Hilchos Matnos Aniyim 6:12

The idea that one must give a needy recipient enough to satisfy him only applies to maaser ani given in the field. If one has tithes in his home, he may divide them among the needy, giving each even just the volume of an olive. One is only commanded to give recipients enough to satisfy them when giving in the field because there’s no one else there from whom they can take. This is derived from Deuteronomy 26:12, “They shall eat in your gates and be satisfied.”

Hilchos Matnos Aniyim 6:13

If a needy man and a needy woman both approach a landowner at home, he gives maaser ani to the woman first, lets her go on his way, and then he gives to the man. If one of a pair, such as a father and son, a man and his relative, two brothers, or two partners, is needy, the other is permitted to give him his maaser ani.
