3,167. One for the Needy and One for the Convert
Hilchos Matnos Aniyim 5:15
If two groups of olives or of carob are separated from one another, shich’cha applies; if three, shich’cha does not apply (again, because so much produce would not be forgotten). If two bundles of flax are separated from one another, shich’cha applies; if three, it doesn’t.
Hilchos Matnos Aniyim 5:16
If two vines, or two of any other tree, are separate from one another, shich’cha applies; if three, shich’cha doesn’t apply. Leviticus 19:10 teaches “Leave them for the needy and the convert.” Even if there are two, one is left for the needy and one for the convert.
