Succah 4:6-7
Succah 4:6
The aravos ceremony was also performed on Shabbos but they would gather the branches on Friday and put them in golden bowls to keep them from wilting. Rabbi Yochanan ben Broka said they would bring palm branches (as opposed to willows), which they would beat on the ground at the sides of the altar. The day was called “the day of beating the palm branches.” (It is unclear whether Rabbi Yochanan ben Broka disagreed regarding all seven days or just about the seventh.)
Succah 4:7
As soon as they left the altar on the seventh day of Succos, the children would unbind the lulavim and eat the esrogim.
